Drowning Prevention Tips
* Supervision. Supervision. Supervision.
* A fence or wall should completely enclose the pool/spa
to prevent unsupervised or unauthorized usage.
* Spring loaded self latching locks should be placed on
all gates and doors leading to the pool. The locks
should be out of reach of small children. (Check with
your local government for specific fencing specifications.)
* Lock all doors to indoor pools when not in use.
* Do not place objects near pool fence. These could enable
a child to climb the fence.
* Make sure there is a clear view from the house to the
pool.
* Keep safety equipment on both sides of the pool in locations
where they are never moved.
* Never use the pool/spa if there are missing or broken
grate outlets.
* Read and follow all manufacturerÕs directions
for safe use on all pool accessories.
* Always completely remove pool or spa covers. Drain any
standing water from the surface of the cover.
* NEVER walk or crawl on the lightweight floating pool
or spa covers.
Safety Tips
* NEVER leave a child unsupervised in a pool or spa. Children
can easily drown in a spa too.
* Restrict access to pool when no supervision is available.
* Enforce these pool rules:
- No Running
- No Pushing, Jumping on Others, or Dunking
- No Diving in shallow water
- No Glass in pool area
- No Pretend Screaming for Help
- No Drugs or Alcohol in pool area
* Do not rely solely on flotation devices to prevent accidents.
* Keep tricycles and other toys on wheel out of pool area.
* Do not swim during inclement weather.Õ
* Do not swim after a heavy meal.
* Teach children the most effective way to exit a pool
or spa.
* Always designate a person to supervise the pool at social
gatherings.
* Post Emergency procedures in highly visible areas.
* Adults should be CPR certified. Certification is available
through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
* Avoid overheating in Spas. Limit time usage.
* Remember that adults who behave responsibly set examples
for children.

* Explain Situation to the 911 operator
* Stay on the line until told otherwise
